This is a sad time for many, many people with the untimely passing of Steve Jobs yesterday. Sure, we all knew he was sick, but no one really ever expected him to die. Not so soon, anyway. He had a profound impact on many people’s lives, particularly those in creative industries and he will be greatly missed.
So rather than get all weepy, I thought we should look at it more positively and celebrate him. He was an incredibly insightful man and uttered some pretty powerful words on many occasions. Here are some of my favorites, many of which were taken from his commencement speech at Stanford in 2005.“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. … Stay hungry. Stay foolish.” “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. SWEET & SAVORY GRILLED CHEESE
via Hornytoad Grilled Cheese Contest
- Select your bread of choice, though fresh white bread is best.
- Spread Dijon mustard on one side of both pieces of bread, and butter on other side (pan down side)
- Cut apples into slices (slightly thicker than potato chips) and pile onto bread in pan
- Add slices of cheese of your choice, though Dubliner is delish
- Add bacon
- Pile on more cheese
- Final layer of apples
- Put on final slice of bread and grill away
- Perfect with pickles and chips on the side
Since I missed last Friday (if I remember correctly, I was attending a really awesome pity party), I will give you two recipe links today. And also because I am on a major sweet tooth/eat everything in site kick as of late (seen here).
This first one I made as the Thanksgiving dessert and it was a major hit! I am not a baker by any stretch of the imagination so the thought of having to bake a pie literally scared the crap out of me. But this recipe caught my eye because it has a crumble top instead of a traditional crust top which in my mind = easy. And much to my delight, it was just that – easy! And what’s more – it was freaking delicious. I think I am going to make it again at Christmas (cuz my underwear aren’t nearly tight enough) but this time I am going to try it with pears. Mmmm…
The second I haven’t tried yet but am dying to do so. Something about adding tea to dishes is so soothing and comforting. And it has bread, and we all know how I feel about that.
Clearly, I’ve got some catching up to do on this here blog. I still haven’t figured out what’s happening at my office, but even on my laptop, I can’t get in to my admin space. So much for trying to multi-task on my lunch hour…
But since we are officially in fall (seriously – when/how did that happen?), I figured let’s kick it off with a tasty fall recipe. And this is sure not to disappoint. It is a little bit labor intensive with quite a lengthy ingredient list, but I can assure you that you’ll be considered the world’s greatest host should you make this for a party.
