Historic pictograms
08.24.2011
Creative station, H-57, embarked on a recent project creating historical figures out of pictograms. Amazing how they’ve managed to interject such wit into such minimalistic design. Michael Jackson is my favorite.

Pencil vs. Camera

Creating a battlefield between the two disciplines, Ben Heine layers hand-drawn illustrations over photographs. Through these blended pieces, Ben shares “pieces of dreams” through illusion and surrealism. The main themes are love and friendship throughout the collection, some serious and some humorous. One thing is consistent, however. Ben’s hand is visible in every piece, emphasizing the intimate connection between the viewer and the action on the paper.

Chronic bitchface

Sadly, this is something I have been accused of having. You know that saying, actions speak louder than words? Well, apparently my non-verbal body language is screaming. But lucky for me, I’m not the only one. I was instantly smitten with Kris Atomic when I came across her Chronic Bitchface print. She’s a cat loving, avid reading, internet loving, only child – it’s like we were separated at birth!
A whole lot of fuckin’ goin’ on!

Hmmm…where to hang this poster? Perhaps over the bed?

So far this week I’ve armed myself with some tools to cope with the stress of being back at work, however, it has yet to go into effect. I’m not too stressed though as this week is pretty mellow thus far. That being said, mellow doesn’t exactly light a fire under my ass to get shit done. Perhaps this fabulous illustration can be of some assistance…

This, along with many other equally adorable illustrations are from Justin Poulter, from the UK. I like it. I like it a lot.
50 and 50
03.23.2011
Fifty and Fifty is an illustrative way of looking at our country. Fifty designers, one per state, will illustrate their state motto, creating something steeped in history but completely modern and unique: a kind of designer’s atlas. It’s interesting to see different people’s interpretation of a common location. They are all created with the same color palette but each is so uniquely different!
Here are just a few of the states. See if you can guess which ones they are!

Infographics
03.08.2011
Infographics are basically a simple visual presentation of hard to understand data, often times using charts and graphs. Written out like this it sounds pretty dry and boring. But lately, infographics seemed to be popping up all over the web, and they are anything but dry. Or boring. Case in point: Wayne Dorrington. He’s a six foot-three slightly overweight ginger-bearded four-eyed socially awkward senior digital designer & illustrator and I am quite smitten with his infographics, particularly the latest – Harry Potter: Facts Revealed!
