The Shake Series
07.28.2011
Oregonian, Carli Davidson is not only a nationally recognized fine art pet photographer, but also an animal trainer and caretaker. Her motto is your pet is beautiful no matter how many limbs it has, and she photographs all species and temperaments! Carli’s Shake Series displays just how beautiful she thinks pets are as all the shots are of dogs shaking their heads. And for any of you with a dog, you know just how strange, wild, wet and wonderful (or not) that can be. The proof is in the pudding – check ‘em out.

Strike a pose!

That’s exactly what these Russian high school kids did for their yearbook photos! But instead of that corny, fall JC Penney backdrop, they used something relevant, and created it themselves. Instead, they posed in front of a chalkboard with drawings that reflected their personality and showed off their interests, making each student’s photo unique. I wish my school had done something like this. I actually have a couple of sorority photos from college where I had to wear a velvet drape. Do you know what those even are? Hideous. That’s all you need to know.

Reasons I’m Not Vegetarian
07.07.2011

Yet another website that falls under the category of Damn, why didn’t I think of that?! Reasons I’m Not Vegetarian is a Tumblr blog with pretty pictures of food, all animal based as evidenced by #113 above – Basic Buttermilk Chicken. Yum!
Dear Photograph,
07.06.2011

It seems young Taylor Jones has struck gold with his Tumblr site, Dear Photograph, on which he asks you to take a picture of a picture from the past in the present (get it? now say it 5 times fast). Within only 3 weeks the site had 1.2 million visitors, 15,000 followers on Tumblr, 8,000 followers on Facebook and 2,000 followers on Twitter. I’ve been blogging for nearly 3 years and still don’t have that many visitors. He’s also signed a book deal with a publisher in Los Angeles.
The site will pull at your heart strings, that’s for sure. People all over the world are submitting photos-within-photos to the site, many of them packed with so much nostalgia they’re motivating people to visit their aging parents and flip through old photo albums with them. Kudos to young Taylor, whose parents urged him not to quit his day job when the idea struck. Something tells me they’re singing a different tune now.
Awesome people hanging out together.

Pretty sure the title sums it up quite well as this tumblr blog is basically just photos of famous folks having a good time together. Awesome indeed.

Pencil vs. Camera
05.16.2011
Creating a battlefield between the two disciplines, Ben Heine layers hand-drawn illustrations over photographs. Through these blended pieces, Ben shares “pieces of dreams” through illusion and surrealism. The main themes are love and friendship throughout the collection, some serious and some humorous. One thing is consistent, however. Ben’s hand is visible in every piece, emphasizing the intimate connection between the viewer and the action on the paper.

The Big Caption
05.19.2010
A complement to the Boston Globe’s The Big Picture, this site takes a photo or two each day and adds a caption to it. And as you can see here, the captions are usually offensive, rude and altogether hilarious.

In an instant!
04.29.2010

Polaroid is making a comeback with a new instant camera – the PIC-300. And while the photos are smaller in size than what you may remember (more like business card size), you will get that instant gratification with printing right from the camera. The camera features four light settings and an auto flash to ensure your photos come out great every time. And surprisingly, the camera comes in pretty affordable at under $100 but it’s the film that’ll get you. At $10/10 pack, you should choose your shots wisely!

Eyjafjallajökull

I have to admit, I haven’t been following the news on the Icelandic volcano like I should be. The extent of what I know is pretty much that lots of people are stranded. But I must say, the photos that are coming out of this disaster are absolutely stunning. Stunning!

And in case you need a little help pronouncing the name of the volcano, check out this little number.
