I am on the hunt for a wide brown belt. This is a rather monumental event for me because I’m short and short people don’t wear belts. This one doesn’t anyway. But I I am reconsidering (obviously, given this post – duh). I have a black dress I got from H & M a couple years ago that resembles a giant hefty bag. Apparently I bought it when I was fat and tired of wearing fat pants. Seems I opted for a fat dress instead.

Anyway… the dress is actually pretty cute, IF it had some shape to it. And its got pockets which makes it a keeper in general. So to give it some shape, I figure a belt is the quicker and cheaper way to go rather than taking it to a tailor and basically having it remade.

However, this little belt scavenger hunt is proving to be a little more difficult than I expected. I’ve already checked 2 local Ross stores, Target and Old Navy. Nothin! So it’s time I turn to my old pal, Mr. Internets. He never lets me down. As a matter of fact, he’s come up with a number of different viable options in the world of brown belts. Now I need YOU to help me choose one!

First, we have this Steve Madden braided option from Overstock. I like that its thin where the buckle is, which I think will help with the illusion of a small waist. But I’m not entirely sold on the shape of the buckle. I like a more square buckle, I think.

Next up we have this camel colored one with a gold buckle. Too western? Maybe.

There’s this linked leather belt from Forever 21, but its not adjustable.

Then we have this stretch belt that’s brown with a contrasting cream band. Kinda pretty. Lots of hardware going on there.

This fishtail belt is kind of interesting. But again, not adjustable.

How about this asymmetrical pullback belt? It’s quite a bit more than I’d like to spend, but it is quite lovely!

Here’s another version of the stretch belt, in a more muted shade of brown. Pony? Mule? What would you call that color?

And in completely unrelated news, how fab is this yellow belt from Ruche! Egads, I want it? Yes, yes, yes! Unfortunately, it’s out of stock, so I suppose it will have to wait.

But back to the topic at hand – brown belts… Which one would you choose? Or do they all just plain suck?

La-la-la-loving this Nouveau Deco Dress from Quicksilver! I can picture an outfit with it in every season of the year making it a definite must-have for my wardrobe!

Sure, this is a quote from the movie Field of Dreams, but I’m gonna put it to the test and see if it really works. And instead of a baseball field, I built an outfit.

Shoes: Capecoral from Aldo (I need these)
Dress: La La Love from Lulu’s (I already have this dress in black and do quite la la love it, so another color is definitely in order)
Bag: Titanic Clutch from Ruche
Necklace: Daring Display from Elva Fields
Ring: Rhinestone Dome from Forever 21

Hi 5

05.03.2011

I am all about ridiculous graphic tees lately. Which should come as no surprise as I have said many times that despite my biological age, I am really 5 on the inside. Which is why I love this new Hi 5 shirt from Threadless. Again, this is no big whoop as I recently purchased these two shirts:

See? Five.

A day in the life

03.30.2011

I WANT this dress. Baaaaaaaaaaaad. I have been feeling a little out of sorts, heifer-ish lately and I imagine this dress would make me feel fabulously sexy.

Many people have talents. They sing, they dance, they make things. I don’t do any of those things. I spend money. And yes, I consider it a talent because I am very, very good at it. Keep in mind, however, that though I spend money, I am a bargain shopper by definition and my ultimate goal when making a purchase is to get the lowest possible price I can find. And let me be clear – this takes work, people! Just once though, I would like to do something, go somewhere, buy something and not think about price. Just outright buy it, maybe even without looking at the price tag.

Because of all this, I imagine my wealthy alter ego and what she looks like on vacation. Her vacation to a stunning tropical location where all the drinks come with umbrellas and are served by tanned men with sexy accents wearing nothing but grape leaves.

Next time you’re in a foul mood, don’t bother opening your mouth. Let your clothes do the talking for you.

This an other equally entertaining tees available from Print Liberation.

Reknit

12.13.2010

Have an old sweater that doesn’t fit anymore? Or perhaps has bigger balls than a well hung farm animal? Why not recycle it and turn it into a scarf and hat set? It’s quite simple actually – the project is called reknit and you just send in your old sweater and get new goodies in return! You can choose the service for yourself or even gift it to someone else. I don’t have many sweaters to begin with since I live in California, but I do have several that just take up space in the closet. And I do need a new scarf and hat. Hmm…

Flytrap

11.30.2010

Flytrap is Jody Cedzidlo and Eric Haugen, a couple of soup-making, vegetable-growing, dog-walking, of sweethearts nerds in North Carolina. They sell screen printed scarves, dresses, shirts, and accessories for women, men, and children and trust me when I tell you, their stuff is “fly!”

As of late it has gotten mighty cold around these parts and I could really use a three nifty Flytrap scarves to keep warm. Anyone? Anyone?

I absolutely adore this Embellished Secrets One Shoulder Dress from Threadsence. It’s a nice mix of sophisticated and casual with it’s loose draping and secret shoulder detail. I could picture wearing this to an elegant evening affair and feeling sexy AND comfortable. What more could you ask for in a dress? Other than a great price, of course…which is only $39, I might add!
