Check it out, people – my dog is famous! Not really of course, but his picture is in a magazine. I don’t count that there are ~50 other dog’s photos there as well, so let’s just not mention that. I told you a while back that I submitted photos of him to a magazine photo contest for tongues. And low and behold, here he is in the March/April edition of Fido Friendly magazine! Now if I can just find a contest that pays actual prize money…

A day in the life

03.30.2011

I WANT this dress. Baaaaaaaaaaaad. I have been feeling a little out of sorts, heifer-ish lately and I imagine this dress would make me feel fabulously sexy.

Let’s face it, we’ve all received, at one time or another, a gift from someone that has been, let’s just say – less than optimal. Basically, it sucked ass. This scenario is the sole reason I am 100% against obligatory gift giving. Christmas, birthdays, baby showers – all events for obligatory gift giving. Don’t even get me started on office gift swaps – OF ANY KIND.

Well now, thanks to the folks at Enjoy This Beautiful Day, we can put an end to all the shitty gifts with their handy Gift Complaint Form. They suggest to give them to the recipient with the gift. I say keep them on hand and use them when you are the recipient.

Heartsy

03.29.2011

Everyday deals like Groupon and LivingSocial seem to be sweeping the nation. But have you heard of Heartsy? It’s like the other sites but its for Etsy! Yes, you read that correctly – its like a Groupon for Etsy! It works the same way, each day they feature new sellers from Etsy with a specific dollar amount deal. For example, one of today’s deals was $19 for $50 worth of art prints at CollageOrama (seen above). Totally adorable, right? I have to admit, I feel kinda like a pig in shit because this just might be the greatest thing since sliced bread!

Modfire

03.28.2011

Though I live in Southern California, where we basically have one, maybe two seasons, I still get cold. Even in the middle of summer, California nights can get especially chilly. These Modfire outdoor fireplaces are just the thing for those chilly evenings when you still want to be outside without having to really bundle up. Totally simplistic in shape and form yet they still make quite a statement with the bold color finish. And guess what their new color for 2011 is……. That’s right – YELLOW!

It seems my Friday series of nothing but ass-enlarging, gut-busting carbs has been a success as what used to be my fat pants, are now just my pants. I guess there is too much of a good thing.

PASTA WITH BACON, PESTO & SUN-DRIED TOMATO
image and recipe adapted from Sweet & Saucy

12 slices of bacon
~1/2 cup pesto (I used 1/2 jar of Classico Pesto)
1 box whole grain penne pasta
1/2 cup sundried tomatoes, chopped
1/4 cup feta cheese (you can use goat as well, if you prefer)

Chop bacon into pieces and fry in a skillet over medium-high heat until crispy. Meanwhile, cook pasta and drain, retaining 1 cup cooking water. Mix cooked pasta with pesto, bacon and tomatoes, adding small amounts of leftover cooking liquid to achieve desired “moistness” (disgusting word, no?). Break feta up into small pieces and mix in. Serve & enjoy!

11

03.23.2011

11 is aptly named “the beautiful game” as its visual aesthetic is really quite stunning. It’s a luxury foosball tableĀ  with sweeping curves, atmospheric lighting and chromed metal players; making “football” appear to be an incredibly glamorous sport. Each table is individually numbered table and meticulously hand-finished by skilled European craftsmen.

The award-winning design was first showcased at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2008 and was so well received, it is now being developed for limited production. And while I agree, 11 is quite possibly the most beautiful game I have ever seen, the price tag made me throw up a little bit in my mouth. Perhaps this might be a gift my wealthy alter ego would buy for her man…

50 and 50

03.23.2011

Fifty and Fifty is an illustrative way of looking at our country. Fifty designers, one per state, will illustrate their state motto, creating something steeped in history but completely modern and unique: a kind of designer’s atlas. It’s interesting to see different people’s interpretation of a common location. They are all created with the same color palette but each is so uniquely different!

Here are just a few of the states. See if you can guess which ones they are!

Have a seat.

03.22.2011

I need this chair. Despite the fact that I have nowhere to put it and it does not go with the decor in any room in my house, I need it.
