Bad-ass bowler bag

04.30.2009

I’ve always thought camera bags were SO ugly. I mean, if you have this crazy expensive camera that, in itself, is beautiful, why does the carrying case have to be so fugly? The Bad-Ass Bowler Camera Bag (otherwise known as Bowler Betty) is anything but ugly! It’s got a dual zippered and side saddle pockets that are super handy for camera accessories like cleaning cloths, memory cards, and lens caps. It even has optional shoulder straps for a fully hands-free operation. Inside, the Bowler has an adjustable padded divider so you can pack any SLR nice and snug while still toting additional lenses. A quilted tri-cot lining keeps your camera extra secure. Finally – a camera bag you want to carry, not one you have to!

Pamper your pout!

lipscrub

I love the sun. But the one thing that comes free with every sun-filled outing is chapped lips. Yuck. But it seems I’ve found a cure thanks to Gabrielle Reece in the June issue of Shape magazine.

The Lip Scrub is like a facial for your lips. Just apply it like you would a gloss, gently exfoliate with your fingers, and wipe it off. Your lips are left feeling and looking smooth and soft. The scrub comes in six flavors, including cocoa, peppermint, cinammon sugar, brown sugar, almond creme and vanilla bean. It’s a little pricier than your average tube of chapstick ($24) but if it leaves your lips soft, flake-free and more kissable – I’m in!

petairways

Pet Airways. Plain and simple.

Pet Airways is a pet-only airline dedicated to pet-friendly travel.  On Pet Airways your pets fly in the MAIN cabin, not some cold, dank cargo hold. Their motto is that pets aren’t packages, they’re “pawsengers.” The travel experience works like this: drop your pet off at a special “pet lounge” at (or nearby) the airport before your flight, the pets are then boarded into individual, secure pet carriers and placed in the lighted and climate-controlled cabin. Designated “pet attendants” monitor your pet every 15 minutes during the flight to make sure they are safe and comfortable (they even monitor their bathroom breaks). At the end of the flight, pets are transferred to another pet lounge where you pick them up. A pet attendant will remain with your pet until you arrive, even if your flight is delayed.

The inaugural flight from New York to Los Angeles is scheduled for July 14 and will cost you about $149 each way. Not cheap, but then again, pretty reasonable if you consider the first class treatment Fluffy will be getting. The airline hopes to expand its service to 25 continental cities within the next few years and cater to exotic pets, as well as to dogs and cats.

Love Sex Magic

04.28.2009

Check out the video for Ciara’s “Love Sex Magic” that she did in collaboration with Justin Timberlake. The music video is crazy sexy and was directed by Diane Martel, who was inspired by the Crazy Horse cabaret show in Las Vegas. She was a little more than inspired, I say. But regardless, the video is hot and steamy and almost makes me a little uncomfortable watching it. Kinda like you caught two people in the act!

On the hunt!

04.27.2009

I’ve decided I want a yellow sweater. A little yellow cardigan to be exact. Bright yellow. Canary yellow. Safety so I don’t get hit crossing the street yellow. Why? I don’t know, I just think it would be a nice color pop in my spring wardrobe. And I recently got a little navy blue dress that I thought would go just perfectly with a yellow sweater. It would make me look like my name should be Muffy and I’m on my way to a short jaunt in the Hamptons. What? Something wrong with that?

Regardless, now I can’t stop thinking about it. And wouldn’t you know – I can’t find one! So to the internet I’m going. Here’s what I’ve come up with (keep in mind I am C.H.E.A.P.). I’m having trouble picking. Which one would you pick?

Washable keyboard

04.27.2009

There is no two ways about it – I simply MUST have this! A washable keyboard? Are you serious? It’s about freaking time! Especially since I “accidentally” spilled some water on my keyboard a couple of weeks ago then had to innocently shrug my shoulders and say “I dunno” when asked why there was liquid and food crumbs underneath all the keys. Oops. So you see – this is a necessity! A MUST have!

Basically what I’m trying to tell you here is that I eat at my desk and I’m a freaking slob. There. It’s out.

washablekeyboard

Completely waterproof, the Silverseal USB Keyboard works just like any other desktop keyboard. But thanks to an amazing waterproofing process known as Seal Shield™ it is spill proof and fully washable. It’s even – get this – dishwasher safe. At nearly $60 it’s a little more than I’d care to spend on such a standard household item, but for one as indestructable as this – FUCK YEAH!

CROQUE SEÑOR

croque-monsieur-2
*recipe adapted from Ina Garten’s “Barefoot in Paris”

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup hot milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 6 ounces Habanero Cheddar, grated (2 1/2 cups)
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
  • 8 slices French bread
  • Dijon mustard
  • 4 ounces ham, sliced but not paper thin
  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and then add the flour, stirring with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes. Slowly add the hot milk, bring up the heat to medium, and whisk constantly, until the sauce is thickened. Off the heat, add the salt, pepper, 1/2 cup grated Habanero Cheddar and the Parmesan; set aside.
  3. Place the slices on a baking sheet, and bake for 4 minutes. Turn each slice and bake for another 2 minutes, until toasted.
  4. Lightly brush half the toasted bread slices with mustard, add a slice of ham to each, and sprinkle with half the remaining Habanero Cheddar. Top with another piece of toasted bread. Slather the tops with the cheese sauce, sprinkle with the remaining Habanero Cheddar, and bake the sandwiches for 5 minutes. Turn on the broiler and broil for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the topping is bubbly and lightly browned. Serve hot.
